Does My Spouse have Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)?

You can tell if someone has OSA by listening to them sleep. You will hear snoring followed by a period of silence. There may be a loud snort or a gasp as they start to breathe again. Some people with OSA do not snore and it is usually the symptoms, such as daytime sleepiness, that indicate whether someone is suffering from OSA.

Other symptoms of OSA may include morning headaches, depression, memory lapses and sexual dysfunction. If you suspect your spouse has OSA, you should refer them to a sleep clinic where the physician may recommend a sleep study to diagnose the problem, followed by treatment with Positive Airway Pressure.
